30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge: Bedtime Smoothie

One of the amazing things about green smoothies is that combining specific ingredients can actually help to relieve specific health challenges. Lettuce has a longstanding reputation as a sleep aid because it contains a narcotic similar to opium (who knew?). In Chinese medicine, cucumbers are used to help with insomnia, in addition to being wonderful for the skin.

This recipe is one of our favorites for calming down and settling into a good night’s sleep.

Nighttime Smoothie

Green smoothie with straw1 peeled whole cucumber

2 apples

4 kale leaves

4 lettuce leaves

Juice of 1/2 lemon

Filtered water

Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender or Vitamix until fully processed. Drink up and sleep tight! Keeps in refrigerator for up to 3 days, but whenever possible drink your smoothies fresh.
