Breaking the Karmic Cycle – are you done yet?
During last night’s Choosing Bliss teleseminar, this question came up several times:
“I feel stuck. How will I know when I’ve finally broken this cycle?”
The question of karmic patterns and themes is one that frequently comes up in Viva’s discussion groups and online courses. It’s the BIG question. “What am I still missing, and how will I know when this karmic cycle is over?
In recent months, I’ve been researching and writing about the role of the emotions in the release of karmic patterns. What I’ve observed is that in karmic cycles, the emotional imprint of a deep karmic pattern is one of the very last things to release.
For example, if you have experienced many lifetimes of poverty, it’s possible that when you look around and see that you have a warm house, plenty to eat, and the ability to feed your family and pay your bills – concrete evidence that the cycle of poverty has been broken- you’re still thinking, “Why do I still feel like I don’t have enough?”
You’re feeling stuck because the emotional imprint of the karmic pattern still hasn’t been released – at least, not yet.
If you have a karmic history of abusive love relationships and you’ve finally broken it in your current relationship – HOORAY! However, you still may be struggling with trust – and not just in your intimate relationship, but in your friendships, work life, and maybe even in your ability to trust yourself and your decisions. A lack of trust might sound like: “See? I’d be better off alone.”
If you’ve had lifetimes where you felt like an outsider (a big karmic issue for many Lightworkers), it may be hard for you to really believe that you’re actually a part of something much bigger than just finding your tribe. You may, in fact, be preparing to fully embrace the ultimate connection with your Divine Self, to Universal Source.
If any of these examples sound like you, or if you’re still experiencing the challenge of feeling “stuck” in a karmic theme or cycle, you CAN break it. How do you know when it’s time? The answer is simple – you know because you’re asking, “Am I ready?”
You can start today.
When the feelings come: “What if I can’t pay my bills? When will I ever have the love I deserve? What if I have a relapse? When will I feel thin enough? Good enough? When will I finally fit in?” That’s when it’s time to raise your emotional set-point. Make a conscious decision to choose a different thought.
When you think: “Why do I never feel like I have enough?” Stop what you’re doing and find evidence that you DO have enough.
Have you eaten breakfast today? Are you warm enough? Have you taken a vacation in the last year? Can you get to the store when you need to? If the answer is YES to these questions, consider the possibility that you DO have enough. You have MORE than most of the people in the world.
If you already know what your karmic theme is, the next step is to identify the feeling that goes with the pattern: fear, guilt, vulnerability, shame, feeling unworthy, etc.). When you feel that feeling coming up, that’s the time to lovingly remind yourself:
“This is just fear talking. I lovingly choose to release this pattern for myself, all previous incarnations, and for the generations to come.”
Next make a mental list that reinforces how you want to feel: “I am grateful for the breakfast I ate. I love seeing my family’s reaction when I make their favorite meal. I am proud that I decorated my house with recycled furniture, because by doing this, I provided my service to the planet.”
Take it a step further, and find small ways to share your wealth! Cut up a big bowl of fresh fruit and bring it to the office. Stop by the Good Will and drop off a few shirts or a pair of gently used boots.
Rest tonight knowing that your donation will be appreciated by someone who is grateful to walk in your shoes.
The daily practice of raising your emotional set-point is the first place to start. Feel how good it feels to feel great.
Then do it again tomorrow.
If this all sounds like crazy talk but you’re willing to try, it’s is a sign that you’ve begun the final stages of karmic release. In the words of a soon-to-be graduate of Choosing Bliss: Tools for Transforming Your Life: “You are a masterpiece of light, grace and brilliance. Be proud and be awesome!”
The final step begins and ends with you.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.” – Martha Graham
